Ethnography

A detailed, first-hand description of the way of life of one community, or the research method used to produce it.

An ethnographer lives with a community for a long period, learns the language, takes part in daily life and writes down what they learn. The result, a book or film, is also called an ethnography. Good ethnography tries to show a society as its own members understand it.
