About Kabila
Kabila is a free guide to the indigenous and tribal peoples of the world. It has pages on 575 peoples in 178 countries so far, and 8,475 more are on the list to be written. The word kabila means tribe in Hindi, Urdu, Arabic and Swahili.
The aim is simple: anyone, with no background at all, should be able to open a page and come away knowing who a people are, where they live, what they speak, how they live and what they are facing now.
Who is included
Indigenous peoples, tribes, tribal confederations, clans and nations on every continent: the Scheduled Tribes of India, Native American tribes, First Nations, Inuit and Métis, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, Māori iwi, the peoples of Africa, the Amazon, the Arctic, Southeast Asia and the Pacific, and the tribes of the ancient world. National majorities and migrant communities are outside the scope.
The word "tribe" is welcomed by some peoples and disliked by others. Kabila uses the name each people uses for itself wherever the sources give it. The answers section explains the words.
How a page is made
Names and facts come from Wikidata and Wikipedia, and from official lists such as India's Scheduled Tribes and the United States' federally recognised tribes. The text is written with AI assistance from those sources only, then checked automatically. A page is published only if it is in scope, has a confirmed country and has enough to say. Anything that falls short waits for a person to review it.
Care
Peoples are described as living societies, in their own terms, without words such as "primitive". Peoples in voluntary isolation are never located more exactly than their country. If a page about your people is wrong or unwelcome, write to us and we will fix or remove it.
Who is behind it
Kabila is published by ClearTrust, a company that measures traffic quality for the advertising industry. ClearTrust pays for Kabila and keeps it free. It also publishes AdTech Sumo and Mela. Editorial decisions on Kabila are not for sale: sponsored placements are always labelled.
