How complete is Kabila?
There is no single agreed list of the world's peoples. The United Nations speaks of more than 5,000 distinct indigenous peoples; nobody has an exact count, because peoples define themselves and governments count differently. So Kabila shows its working.
Where the list comes from
Every people that Wikidata classes as an indigenous people, a tribe, a federally recognised tribe, an iwi or an ethnic group and that has an English Wikipedia article; plus every people linked from official and well-kept lists, such as the Scheduled Tribes of each Indian state, the federally recognised tribes of the United States, First Nations in Canada, Aboriginal group names in Australia, and the indigenous peoples of Brazil, Russia and the Philippines.
Where things stand today
| Group | Published | Waiting to be written | Waiting for review | Judged out of scope |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Indigenous peoples, tribes and official lists | 575 | 3,950 | 4 | 20 |
| Other ethnic groups, checked one by one for scope | 0 | 3,645 | 0 | 1 |
| Peoples of the past | 0 | 876 | 0 | 0 |
| Total | 575 | 8,471 | 4 | 21 |
New pages are written every day, surest and best documented first. Wikidata is re-read every week for peoples added since.
What is missing
Peoples with no English Wikipedia article are not here yet. That leaves out many small communities, especially in Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, central Africa and the Amazon, and many groups on India's state lists. If you know of one, or belong to one, write to kabila@cleartrust.cc and we will add it.
By region so far: Asia 192, North America 121, South America 113, Africa 63, Europe 54, Oceania 32. 7 peoples are listed as living in voluntary isolation.
