Ethnocentrism

Judging other cultures by the standards of one's own, and assuming one's own way is the normal or best one.

Everyone grows up seeing their own customs as natural, so some ethnocentrism is common. It becomes harmful when it leads people to rank others as inferior. Words such as 'primitive' and 'backward' are products of ethnocentrism and are avoided in careful writing.
