Displacement

Being forced to leave one's home or land, whether by governments, companies, conflict, conservation projects or disasters.

Also called: forced removal, forced relocation, eviction

Indigenous and tribal peoples have been displaced for settlement, dams, mines, plantations, military bases and national parks. Because their way of life is tied to a specific place, moving them often destroys their livelihood and community as well as their homes. UNDRIP says they shall not be relocated without free, prior and informed consent.
