UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues

The United Nations advisory body on indigenous matters, which meets each year in New York.

Also called: UNPFII, Permanent Forum

The forum was set up in 2000 and held its first session in 2002. It advises the UN's Economic and Social Council on indigenous peoples' development, culture, environment, education, health and human rights. It has 16 independent experts: eight nominated by governments and eight by indigenous organisations.
