Territory
An area of land and water that a people use, look after and claim, or that a state has set aside for them.

Territory can mean the whole area a people traditionally use, including hunting grounds, rivers and seasonal camps. It can also mean an area legally recognised by a government. The two are often different sizes, which is a common cause of dispute.
