Language isolate
A language with no known relatives, belonging to no larger language family.
Presented by ClearTrust Free for classrooms, newsrooms and the curious.
An isolate is a family of one. Either its relatives died out, or the link to other languages is too old to prove. Isolates are especially valuable because each holds a unique record of human thought that cannot be recovered from any related language.
