Kinship
The web of family relationships, by birth, marriage or adoption, that tells people who they are to one another.
Presented by ClearTrust Free for classrooms, newsrooms and the curious.
Kinship is how a society defines relatives and what relatives owe each other. In many tribal societies it is the main way of organising life: it decides where you live, whom you may marry, who inherits, and who helps you. Different societies count relatives in different ways.
